As part of our trust & safety process, Mycare offers free Ministry of Justice (MoJ) criminal and traffic conviction checks to all workers promoting their services at Mycare. A worker is unable to apply for jobs through Mycare until this check is completed.
What you need to know about getting a Ministry of Justice check:
When a worker creates a profile at Mycare, they consent to a MoJ check. Mycare provides them with the MoJ form and covers the cost of the check.
Once the completed MoJ form is received by Mycare, it's sent to the MoJ for processing; this takes approximately five working days. Once completed, the worker receives a copy of their MoJ check. Mycare uploads a copy to the File Cabinet under their worker profile, and updates their MoJ status.
People seeking care may still reach out to those workers who have yet to complete the check. Mycare makes it easy for people seeking care to see at a glance what a worker's MoJ status is.
How can you tell what a worker’s Ministry of Justice status is?
- Workers who have completed this check will have a green tick next to 'Ministry of Justice check' in their profile
- Workers whose MoJ check is underway with will have an orange ‘pending’ triangle in their profile
- If a worker has a red question mark in their profile, people seeking care are advised to ask the worker about their MoJ check.
We encourage workers to carry a copy of their MoJ check with them to client interviews.
Additional checks:
If a child or vulnerable person is receiving care, the worker should also be able to produce a recent Police check from an Approved Agency, or give their permission for this process to take place. The NZ Police vetting service provides criminal history checks about potential and current employees and volunteers to Approved Agencies that provide care to children, older people and other vulnerable members of society. New rules mean people who work with children must undergo this safety check.
