Kerri Bonner - Carabiner Co-ordinator, Christchurch
Carabiner is a mentoring programme created for young people with disabilities, who are already achieving excellence, to help them take that next step toward realising their aspirational goals. Carabiner guides individuals and enables them to widen their networks. Initially, this was a programme established in Auckland. However, over the past year it has expanded to Christchurch. We caught up with Kerri, in Christchurch, who is currently recruiting someone to join the team.
It is clear that Kerri is passionate about the work she does. She says, “There isn’t a lot of support for young people in the disability sector who want to achieve excellence.” Carabiner aims to connect young people with mentors in their chosen fields who can work with them to support their success. “The young people in Carabiner also benefit from meeting people through their mentor,” says Kerri.
She is currently looking for someone who has an awareness of the disability sector but doesn’t need them to have direct experience. “They need a strong willingness to learn with a key focus on relationships and networks. Someone who is really into promotion, getting out and about selling Carabiner.”
