We tend to know what the trip hazards are in our homes but we often put off addressing them. Then, when we fall and injure ourselves, it is too late. ACC has compiled a list to ensure that we can be proactive in preventing accidents from happening.
There are some simple solutions such as ensuring electrical cords are not in main walkway areas, by placing them under furniture or taping them to the walls. If you do need them to cut across a main walkway then it may be useful to invest in Velcro strips to hold the cables in place and make it less likely to trip. Many of the tips seem obvious but can end up on the ever-growing list of deferred home improvements. Luckily, ACC provides a handy ‘To Do’ list for each room of the house. This is great way to ensure you reduce the risk of falls in all areas of your home.
