Workers often use their own cars during a booked visit at Mycare. This can be for travel to things like appointments, events or to run errands. In some cases you may have agreed to pay travel expenses to an from your house if you live some distance away from your worker. You can pay these travel expenses to your worker at Mycare when you book their visits at 73 cents per kilometre.
The IRD publishes a recommended mileage rate to be used by a self-employed (contractors) person to calculate the cost of using their private vehicle for business purposes.
The most recently published rate is 73 cents per kilometre. This per kilometre rate is widely accepted as a reasonable estimate of the costs for running and maintaining a vehicle.
Mycare has used this as a guide to set the per kilometre rate for the workers at Mycare who may use their own vehicle for activities that you have agreed to pay travel expenses for.
How do I pay travel expenses?
When you book visits for your workers you can choose whether you want to pay travel expenses. You select the amount of kilometres that you would like to pay up to.
When the worker submits their visit they put in their travel expenses. If this is under or up to the amount you selected, the visit will be automatically approved with 24 hours. If it is over the amount you will receive a notification to review the visit.
For example: your worker might be taking your child to the zoo as part of a respite visit and you want to pay them for the travel but you don't know how far it is. You can estimate the distance you think - let's pick 20km as the round trip. On the day the worker records the distance as 17km and they claim for 17km when they submit the visit. This visit will be automatically approved in 24 hours or you can log in and submit the visit anytime before then.
