The Mycare office is buzzing with the new arrival of our CEO, Shaun Smith. It is yet another step in moving Mycare to the next level and providing you with the best service possible.
Mark Verbiest, chairperson of Mycare, says, "Shaun brings a combination of strategic thinking, team leadership and operational capability that will drive growth at Mycare."
Mycare's ethos of having workers and clients share the driver's seat resonated with Shaun's personal and professional experience. Having spent his career working in the health and financial sectors, Shaun brings with him an eye for detail and the ability to move Mycare forward.
Shaun’s interest in patient-centred care started to develop while managing a national general practice network. His passion grew after recovering from a serious injury. Having lived with daily pain, Shaun can empathise with Mycare’s users.
He believes that self-direction is the driving force behind great outcomes. Shaun says, “Putting people in charge of their own health and disability journey, alongside their families and communities, are moral pillars for Mycare. They are the keys to life-changing results. Being part of that is exciting for all involved."
Originally from the UK, Shaun now calls New Zealand home, although he is still an avid football fan (the round ball variety). In his spare time Shaun enjoys fishing and is currently completing a level two Te Reo Maori class. He lives with his wife, Kerry, and an aging cat "who treats us like staff".
