For children and adults with a disability
Starjam is a New Zealand organisation that offers music workshops, community events, private and public gigs throughout the country. Starjam is specifically for young people aged 6 to 25 living with a disability. Starjam runs their programmes in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Tauranga. A quick google search for ‘dance studios near me’ will pull up the dance studios in your local area. Many dance studios are able to provide integrated dance classes, just speak to your local studios head teacher.
Jolt Dance is a Christchurch based dance company that offers dance classes for all ages and abilities focusing on skill development and performance opportunities. Jolt runs classes for individuals aged 5 through to adult. You can find their timetable here.
Dance therapy is an organisation who run creative movement dance and art classes throughout Auckland. They offer specialty classes for children, youth, and adults with a disability and also ACC clients. Touch Compass is New Zealand’s leading professional inclusive performance company! They world globally with choreographers and directors to collaborate with disabled and non-disabled performers. For older adults
Hip Op-eration Dance Academy is world famous for taking a hip hop crew with team members aged in their 50’s to late 90’s to compete at the World Hip-hop Championships in Las Vegas, They currently run classes out of Auckland but are in the works of training up teachers across the country. Zumba is a world famous exercise program that was created by a Colombian dancer and choreographer. Zumba is now offered across the globe! Zumba classes are a fun way to get active and met other local people.
